31.1 Using present continuous tense for the future

We use the present continuous when we have a plan to do something.

Look at the examples:

1 I am going to the movies on Sunday.
2 Are you going out this evening?
3 We are meeting our friends tomorrow.
4 What are they doing this weekend?
5 Dad is staying home tonight.
6 Mom is having tea with her friends this afternoon.
7 Sarah is having her exams on Monday. She is not going out this weekend.
We use the simple present for timetables, trains, programs, schedules, etc.:
1 The movie starts at 8:30.
2 The train departs at 6:15.
3 What time does the train leave?
4 My class begins at 8 o’clock.
5 What time does your class begin?
6 The shops open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 9:00 p.m.
7 My dad starts work at 9:00 a.m. and finishes at 6:00 p.m.
