15.2 Negative simple present time

 

When we use do not or does not before a verb, the verb stays in its base form. We use does not for a 3rd person singular in the simple present time.

 

Here are some examples of positive and negative sentences. Pay attention to the verb when we are speaking of he, she and it.

Positive Negative
I drink milk. I do not (don’t) drink tea or coffee.
We drink tea. We do not (don’t) drink coffee.
You drink coffee. You do not (don’t) drink tea.
They drink tea without milk. They do not (don’t) drink milk.

 

 

He drinks tea. He does not (doesn’t) drink coffee.
She drinks coffee. She does not (doesn’t) drink tea.
My cat (it) drinks milk. My cat does not (doesn’t) drink water.
